Mawkwil~mn~j, meaning "let's look for it together" is a design-build youth pavilion project. The structure sits at the confluence of three walking trails, within the powwow grounds of Millbrook First Nation. It continues Roger Mullins' series of collaborations supporting Indigenous youth athletes, including work undertaken during the 2023 North American Indigenous Games in Kjipuktuk.
Completed through close collaboration and dialogue with community members, Knowledge Holders and Elders, it contributes to an ongoing Etuaptmumk or “Two-Eyed Seeing” design approach. The pavilion reuses existing roundwood poles and employs basic tools and low-tech construction methods to develop an innovative structural system.
The result is a shaded circular space for youth groups and community members to gather. At 20 feet in diameter, the pavilion can accommodate up to 16 users at a time, with an open inside circle providing space for a fire pit.
