This project was developed as a case study counterpoint to the Karsamaki Shingle Church by OOPEAA. As a counterpoint, I have proposed a community workshop centred around a woodcraft studio which can educate the community on traditional Finnish construction techniques.
The design emphasizes progression. The inner building core housing the woodshop protrudes from the building, symbolizing the emergence of modernity from tradition. Constructed with local wood using traditional techniques, the centre aims to embody the craft it celebrates, uniting heritage with innovation. The interplay between form, program and material weaves a narrative that continues the intergenerational exchange started at the Karsamaki Shingle Church.
