The School of Sustainability frames sustainability as a practice embedded in everyday life. Low-tech building systems, publicly accessible spaces and embodied-energy-conscious materials create opportunities for sustainable practices to be collectively understood, enacted and ritualized.
The three-floor main building restores a streetwall along Queen Street, re-establishing a civic presence through public plazas and exhibitions of student work. Three interconnected structures form an enclosed but accessible campus, allowing for a transition between academic life and the city.
The campus is a place for sustainability to be studied, but it is also a space where it can be practiced and experienced. Through its design, sustainability becomes visible and embedded within everyday urban life.
