Location: Dartmouth Cove Infill, N.S.
Project: B3 Design proposal - Dalhousie
Typology: Civic/Cultural
Completed: Summer 2025
This proposal aims to breathe new life into the social and artistic life of Dartmouth Cove. Sited at the location of the proposed infill in Dartmouth, the project reimagines this contentious condition as a place for community gathering, culture, and small local businesses.
Two structures, connected by a bridge, act as a gateway into the existing waterfront park, maintaining its connection to the surrounding neighbourhood and harbourfront route. The architecture is designed to encourage movement into and throughout the infilled shoreline, anchoring activities and establishing a new civic park space. The project adopts an adaptive reuse strategy, inhabiting the roof of the beloved yet underutilized Dartmouth Cove graffiti wall warehouse. Two adjoining structures are proposed: the first, a community hall with a café, event, and exhibition spaces; the second, a clothing and jewelry makerspace studio designed for youth, hobbyists, and emerging entrepreneurs. Fabrication, exhibition, and commerce are integrated on site, creating an accessible environment where ideas can be exchanged, created, shared, bought, and sold.
